Omega-3 (EPA + DHA) — the dose that actually matters
Omega-3 EPA and DHA are the actives that drive every benefit (cardiovascular, cognitive, mood, joint). The label number that matters is not "fish oil 1,000 mg" — it is the combined EPA+DHA per serving. The validated daily dose for general health is 1,000–2,000 mg combined EPA+DHA.
Why most SA fish oil underdoses
A typical "1,000 mg fish oil" SA softgel delivers 180 mg EPA + 120 mg DHA — 300 mg of actives. The validated cardiovascular and cognitive dose is 1,000 mg+ EPA+DHA, which means 3–6 of those softgels. Vivid lists the EPA and DHA milligrams on the front of the bottle.
Triglyceride vs ethyl ester form
Triglyceride-form omega-3 absorbs ~70% better than ethyl-ester form (Dyerberg et al., 2010). Re-esterified triglyceride (rTG) is the highest-bioavailability form. Vivid uses rTG from GC Rieber Oils (Norway/Peru) with IFOS 5-star certification for purity and freshness.
Who needs what
| Goal | Combined EPA+DHA |
|---|---|
| Cardiovascular maintenance | 1,000 mg/day |
| Brain & mood | 1,500–2,000 mg/day, EPA-leaning |
| Triglyceride lowering | 2,000–4,000 mg/day (clinical) |
| Pregnancy / breastfeeding | 200–400 mg DHA/day |
Omega-3 FAQ
EPA or DHA — which matters?
Both. EPA dominates anti-inflammatory and cardiovascular benefits; DHA is the structural fatty acid in brain and retina.
Fish oil or krill?
Krill carries phospholipid-bound omega-3 with astaxanthin — premium but expensive. For most users, IFOS-certified triglyceride fish oil at a real dose is more cost-effective.
Does it interact with blood thinners?
Speak to your doctor if you take warfarin, aspirin or have a clotting condition.
When should I take it?
With food, ideally a fat-containing meal. Split across the day if you're taking 3+ softgels.
Why does Vivid's omega-3 have a freshness date?
Oxidised omega-3 is worse than no omega-3. We list batch peroxide values and a clear expiry.
