225 + 225 — the split-dose decision on the Turmeric Plus label

The Turmeric Plus label carries two rows of exactly the same size: turmeric powder, 225mg, and turmeric extract, 225mg, per vegetable capsule. That fifty-fifty split is the formulation decision this article is about — because turmeric is the supplement world's most famous absorption problem, and how a label answers that problem tells you how the brand thinks.

The problem, in plain language

Curcumin — the family of compounds turmeric is mostly taken for — is poorly absorbed on its own. It doesn't dissolve well in water, the gut takes up only a small fraction of what you swallow, and the body metabolises and clears what does get in quickly. Swallow plain curcumin on an empty stomach with a glass of water and most of it passes through you. This isn't controversial; it's the best-documented limitation in the herbal literature, and any turmeric product that doesn't engage with it is selling you the famous name and keeping the fine print.

What the split does

The extract half is concentration: 225mg of turmeric extract carries more of the curcuminoid fraction per milligram than ground root does. It's the row doing the heavy lifting.

The powder half is the whole root: 225mg of turmeric as the kitchen has always known it — the full spectrum of the rhizome, including its natural oil fraction, rather than an isolated slice. Whole-root powder is the traditional form, and keeping it in the capsule means the extract's concentration sits alongside the plant's own context instead of replacing it.

Together, one capsule delivers 450mg of turmeric material, and the label's direction — 1 to 3 capsules daily — lets you run between 450mg and 1,350mg a day depending on what you're using it for.

What's not on the label — and what to do instead

You'll notice something absent from those rows: black pepper extract (piperine). Some turmeric formulas include it, because piperine sharply raises curcumin absorption in studies — partly by slowing the enzyme systems that clear curcumin from the body. Those are the same enzyme systems involved in clearing some medications, which is one reason formulators genuinely differ on whether to include it. Ours doesn't carry it, so we won't pretend it does — and that makes your habits the absorption strategy:

  • Take it with a meal that contains fat. Curcumin is fat-soluble; food — especially fat — is the oldest and most reliable absorption aid there is. This is not a garnish tip, it's the instruction.
  • Spread the dose. If you're taking 2–3 capsules, take them with different meals rather than all at once. Absorption is a per-dose bottleneck; smaller doses more often get more through it.
  • Be consistent. Turmeric is a weeks-long tool, not a twenty-minute one. Judge it after three to four weeks of daily use, not after Tuesday.

The honest bit

The published research on turmeric for joint comfort mostly used concentrated curcuminoid extracts at daily doses at — or above — the top of what this label provides at 3 capsules. So here's the honest positioning: Turmeric Plus is a daily-support formulation, well suited to the person building turmeric into a long-term routine, taken properly with meals. It is not a painkiller, and it doesn't treat anything. If a joint is persistently painful, swollen or worsening, that's a conversation for a professional, not a bigger dose of a spice — and we'll tell you the same thing at the counter.

Where it fits

Turmeric also appears on the botanical bench of our FlexiJoint blend, so if joints are your whole reason for reading this, compare the two approaches before buying either. Unsure which suits you?
